ARTIST BIO
Kelie Myers, a native Oklahoman describes herself as a colorist and designer no matter the medium or craft. She paints primary in oil but also works in mixed media, printmaking processes, handcrafted jewelry and even a dash of travel photography. She has been making jewelry more than 20 years and she began painting nearly a decade ago after landing in her first art class by accident. She fell in love with art and the process and has since studied under such fine artists as Lance Hunter, Bobby C. Martin, Rick McClure, Robert Lewis, Jean Richardson & Dan Weldon. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts fine art emphasis from Northeastern State University. Currently she is working on a series of emotional and atmospheric landscapes in oil as well as two series of creatively free, mixed media abstract works. New jewelry works are always in process at her studio with new lines debuting each season. Each piece is carefully handcrafted with the most meticulous attention to detail. The jewelry line is primarily made using precious metals and semi-precious gemstones which provide a great deal of inspiration for Kelie, even in her paintings and print works. “I love the stone God provides us with in nature, I’d travel the ends of the earth to find new gems if I could, in fact I just might someday.”
You can find her work in fine galleries and boutiques all over Oklahoma and five states across the country. Her most recent accomplishments include auditioning for the design competition Project Accessory in Chicago and making it through several eliminations to the top 40. Project Accessory is a new Reality TV competition coming to Lifetime TV next year from the producers of Project Runway.
Although very diverse at times, Kelie's jewelry, paintings and prints have a sense of passion and energy that is unmistakable stylistic to her work. She enjoys experimenting with mediums and a new approach to the traditional. “I do this because I love it and I was born to create. Even as a child I loved the excitement of making something out of what was once nothing.” Currently Kelie owns and operates a small gallery that highlights the work of local artists in Historic Downtown Tahlequah as well continuing to produce work in her studio.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"Over the last several years I have created a body of work that is both diverse and stylistic. Having come from classical training when approaching a new work I first think of color and composition. However, weather I'm creating a piece of jewelry, an oil painting, fine art print or a mixed-media piece bringing the viewer into the work through emotional connection is what inspires me most. Mostly, I paint and create because I love it. Simple as that may be, but so true. I first fell in love with art as a “process” and I believe in the benefits of creating for creation sake. The empowerment and wealth of skills gained through pursuing one own creative spirit is a therapy for the soul unmatched by any other. Through the visual experience it is my passion to pass on this philosophy."
