friends join us in the Mathews Warehouse in beautiful downtown Tulsa. We had 36 lovely
vendors, 10 gallery artists, and 5 runway designers participate in the 2007 show.
In 2008, Indie Emporium more than doubled in attendance and had 40 vendors, 12 gallery
artists, and 9 fashion designers participate. Our 2008, 2009, & 2010 home was at VFW Post 577, on 6th street, just outside of downtown Tulsa.
Our 2011 show will be held at Living Arts of Tulsa at 307 East Brady.
Again, we will have the hippest craft vendors, a fashion show of
handmade clothing and accessories, make-and-take crafting stations, a fine arts gallery
space, workshops and demos led by fabulously crafty people, and much more.
Our 2009 & 2010 events served as a canned food drive and fundraiser for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. With your donations, we were able to donate over $300 and 633 lbs of canned food in 2009 and our 2010 show raised enough food and money to provide 2492 meals to those in need. Our 2011 show will serve as a canned food drive and fundraiser for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma again. Please bring canned goods to be donated and you will receive a $3 discount on your at the door tickets. We’ll also have a silent auction with proceeds benefiting the food bank. Spontaneous Elements & Amorphous at The Canebrake
07.27.10 to 08.29.10
Opening Reception TBA Wagnor, OK, USA Paintings and Jewelry on display in the boutique and walls of the Canebrake.
SPONTANEOUS ELEMENTS: The paintings in this body of work are a process of exploration and experimentation produced simply to represent pure color, technique and texture. It’s a dichotomy, or marriage of sorts between Contemporary Color Field painting and Lyrical Abstraction. When I begin each of these works I have no projected outcome in mind, taking cues from my environment. Many times, although not intentional I find similarities from the many natural stones and minerals of the earth like the ones used in my jewelry works reflected in this series. In fact this is so present that I have titled many of the pieces in the series after stones and minerals found all over the world. I work with layers of thick and thin color, washes and/or scrubbing over a textured surface. Traces of time are left by the assorted mark makers, lines are straight, curved or gestural, surfaces are wiped, rubbed, dripped and spattered using everything from painting knives brushes, spray bottles, even my fingers; all adding to an eventual sense of accumulation. Having been inspired by the works of artists like Mark Rothko, Helen Franenthaler, William de Kooning and Dan Christensen I have drove whole heartedly into being brave enough to be a colorist.
AMORPHOUS: This collection is a variety of different works that are all an assemblage of some kind. Each work is made from reclaimed materials including, glass, metals and wire work interwoven with hand painted works on paper.
BOHEMIAN JEWELS: Handmade Jewelry made with natural gemstones and precious metals. All works are one of kind originals.
There will also be a preview of works from the solar plate series of abstract landscapes that celebrate and represent the eco regions of Oklahoma.
